True Friendship

One of my students came to class today with a broken leg and bruised face... He had an accident a few weeks ago because a jackass car driver suddenly made a U-turn without signalling and my student who was riding a motorcycle didn't have the chance to hit the breaks fully...

Anyway, even though this student of mine was given weeks of day off, he came in today because there's a test and he wanted to do one other assessment so he can pass my subject this semester... He did the same for other subjects he's taking this semester...

What touched me (figuratively) is his friend's effort to help him come to all of those tests and presentations... His house is about 15 minutes away from Politeknik while his friend is staying in a rented house near Politeknik... His friend picks him up from his house and drives him to Politeknik and then sends him back home again for almost two weeks now...

From the looks of his friend's face, he's happy to help... Like how Sam helps Frodo send the ring to Mordor...

That made me think of how beautiful true friendship is... Besides family, close friends are the ones we can't really live without... It made me miss my own friends...

Zombie

I recently noticed that I've been following a daily routine... Ever since my wifey's not around because she's pursuing her masters at UPM, Serdang, I've been doing the same thing over and over again in most of my days...

I wake up at 6.00 a.m but I snooze the alarm and sleep for another 30 minutes before hitting the bloody cold shower... Then I iron my working clothes and solat Subuh... I eat breakfast, either nasi lemak or nasi minyak, make the bed, pack my bag and leave house at around 7.10 or 7.15 a.m...

The motorcycle ride to work usually lasts 40 minutes... Then I work until 5.00 p.m

I reach home from work at 5.40 p.m and do some gym free work out such as shadow boxing, push ups and crunches for 20 minutes... After that, I hit the shower and have early dinner... If I don't feel like exercising (which happens a lot), I would just lie down on my bed and have a short nap before shower...

At 7.00 p.m, abah goes to the surau for Maghrib prayer, so I'll take over the counter of our grocery shop... Then I take over again when it's Isya'...

Basically, my time of relaxation and leisure starts at around 9.30 p.m... Firstly I would set up my laptop and check my e-mails, write a blog entry (like this one) or read online comix/manga... Once I run out of things to do online, I would choose any movie to watch... It's often not a good idea though sinceI tend to get sleepy through out a quarter of the movie... If I don't watch a movie, I would read my novels and magazines...

Of course, while doing all of that, I also text wifey... Sometimes I pause everything and call her just to hear her voice... Really miss her during nights... I end my day with a good night text from her...

This routine, I follow it almost everyday except during weekends... It's kinda depressing...

I guess this is the zombie life people on television warn me about... Hollywood always tells us, "Hey, don't just be stuck behind a desk! Don't follow a routine!! Don't be a zombie!! Follow your dreams!!" and all those shit... Fuck u Hollywood... I have responsibilities...

I need to think of a way to break the routine... I need to go places after work, not just be behind the counter taking orders from customers and being in front of a laptop... but the problem is, you see, I'm a good son... I'm way too considerate to abandon my duty as a son... Besides, my parents are both not at best of health lately...

Furthermore, I kinda got nowhere to go... Living in Dungun, the only mall present is Mesra Mall which is quite lame... It's TGV cinema is also lame because it shows crappy shits... Limited halls...

It'll be very easy if I'm living at Bandaraya Melaka right now... There are so many malls and cinemas there for me to hang out and watch latest blockbusters... I could go play pool with my buddies or watch football at Subaidah... Ahh, I miss Bandaraya Melaka and my bros there...

Hmmm... So, what can I do to change stuff before I become a grumpy zombie? I need my wifey la... It's always fun when she's around... We don't need to do stuff or go anywhere... Just talking with her can bring a lot of laughter... Ahh, I miss my baby wifey...

I keep telling myself that all of this is just temporary... My wife will finish her masters in a couple of years and we'll move to our own place... We won't have to separate again by that time... I guess that's the thing that make me hold on... I'm sure she's thinking the same...

I too will pursue my masters one day and get the hell out of politeknik and apply for a teaching position at a university...

For now, I'll just be patient and try to fight off the virus... Like people say, good things come to those who wait... Hey, I waited for quite a long time for my wife to accept me and look at us now... Happy and so in love with each other even though we've been together for so long...

Stolen (2012)

Will Montgomery (Nicolas Cage) was a high profile heist mastermind... During his last robbery, a member of his team, Vincent (Josh Lucas) went out of control and cost him his freedom... Being locked up for 8 years in prison, Will swore to abandon his ways of the dark and focus on his daughter... Vincent abducted his daughter and asked for ransom...

Hollywood movie fans are all very familiar with the Nicolas Cage not turning down every single roll he's offered... From a legendary actor, he downgraded himself to ordinary level by starring in mediocre movies...

Stolen can be categorized as one of his mediocre films... For me, this movie is not bad... In fact, it's better than last year's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and Drive Angry... It's just that, this movie is not that great either... There are no new ideas that can really WOW the audience...

The good thing about this movie is that it's quite cheesy... Not that it's funny but the mood set is good... I don't feel any depression while watching... It's most probably because of the superhero kind of music being played in the background and also how the characters all try to be so positive...

The bad thing is the plot... There's that lack of suspense element and the huge amount of clichés... Everything is like so predictable...

I don't think I need to elaborate about Nic Cage's acting... I mean, it's just the same in every movie... What change often is just his quirky hairstyle... I really damn hate his smile... It's pretty creepy...

As to summarize, I again would like to say that this movie is just a mediocre movie... No new ideas, no suspense, full of clichés... but then again, it's still worth the watch if u really want to pass time or simply have nothing else to watch (like me)... It's not bad, it's not good... It's ordinary...

Universal Soldier : Day of Reckoning (2012)

A group of government's super soldiers went rogue... John (Scott Adkins) were assign to eliminate them... The mission was not a smooth one because John's artificial memory was messed up and he couldn't remember anything except the fact that his family was killed by Luc Deveraux (Jean Claude Van Damme)...

Before watching, I wasn't really sure on what to expect from this movie because I'm not familiar with the Universal Soldier franchise... My source of motivation to see it was the three names written on the posters - Jean Claude Van Damme, Scott Adkins, and Dolph Lundgren... Those three combined spelled EPIC ACTION MOVIE for me...

Well, personally, I didn't really like the mood set for the movie... I feel that this movie is rather depressing... There were no cool soundtracks played during the fights, the picture was often dark, the characters were so sad and serious...

Then, the story is very confusing from the beginning until every secret was spilt... I got that the director tried to create mystery and wanted to make it suspenseful however it didn't seem to work... The confusion in plot kinda turned me off a bit... Maybe I was confused because I didn't watch the previous instalments...

The good thing was the action scenes were great... The fights got more interesting when John finally remember his moves... The one on one fights were epic and satisfying! I also love the continuous single camera take on the scene where John went on a killing spree at the enemy's camp... I love it!

This movie is very gory... Fingers and toes chopped off, head drilled, skulls bashed... Blood and flesh everywhere... So messy...

As a conclusion, I would like to summarize by saying that I hate the depressing mood being set for the movie, the plot was very very very confusing but the action scenes were superb!

I Hate Mosquitoes

A couple of weeks back, I got a quite a scare when I received the news about my father being hospitalized... The doctor suspected that he had dengue fever... Hearing the word 'dengue' numbed my whole body... I wasn't really sure on what to expect and prayed so hard that he would be okey...

I felt better though after I went to see him at the hospital as soon as I heard the news... His temperature was soaring but he was still able to converse and walk around a bit... It gave me an impression that the illness was not really serious...

On the next day, I sent him some food because lets face it, hospital food sucks... It was a big relief to know that his temperature decreased overnight... The treatment seemed to be working... Thank God

What I found funny was he was literally surrounded by friends... A few of our neighbours were also in the same ward because of various illnesses and were placed around him... At least he had people to interact with...

It was very amusing that so many of our neighbours came to visit him...

Anyway, because of my father, the whole neighbourhood was raided by officers from Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Dungun... They went from house to house to check for mosquito larvae...

My mom was wise enough to clean the house before they came to check... However, a few neighbours were not so fortunate... Larvae were found in their area and therefore they were fined... How much I'm not so sure... Boy, they must hate my dad...

The search was really thorough... They checked everything from coconut shells to old tyres...

After that, they fogged the neighbourhood with mosquito repellent...

I really hope that they would do more of the spot check and fogging because seriously, mosquitoes are many at my area...

The good news was, dad went out of the hospital a few days later as the doctor confirmed there were no more virus found in his system...
